War, Violence and Torture:

Some argue that religion causes violence; others believe religion is the solution to violence. For hundreds of years, Christians did not fight wars; and yet, just war theory is grounded in Augustinian practice. And even now, there is a huge divide between those who think Christians can support torture (evangelicals) and oppose (mainline protestants).

Where do you stand? do you think religion causes violence? How so? How are human beings wired toward violence? And what should religious people say about torture?

At this meeting we will discuss other times (perhaps the second Sunday at 4:00pm?) or locations that are quieter.
